Who We Are
The Pensacola Beach Community Church was organized in December,
1976. Soon afterwards, it became affiliated with the United
Church of Christ (a union of the Congregational Christian and
Evangelical & Reformed Churches).
The first meetings were held in a building owned by the Woman's Club of Pensacola Beach
which was later deeded to the Church. The building eventually became the Fellowship Hall and Offices until it was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Groundbreaking for the new Fellowship Hall is scheduled for Spring 2008. In 1991, the present church building was
erected and has served the community in many ways.
Our identity goes back to the Puritans and Separatists in England who eventually came to America and continued the identity. We claim the meanings imbedded in the
names of those units which make up the United Church of Christ:
-
We see ourselves as part of the body of Christ ...
-
We follow in the tradition of the Protestant Reformers ...
-
We are an autonomous church and regard the local congregation as the basic unit
of the United Church of Christ. Our mission begins here and moves outward.
-
We believe our task is to share the Good News of God's love as we identify that love in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ as he went about caring for and touching the lives of those with whom he came into contact.
